What’s New in the Redesigned 2026 Subaru Outback?
Subaru gave the Outback a redesign inside and out for 2026. The SUV is now a two-row midsize with 81 cubic feet of cargo space with the rear seats lowered.
The new Outback is available with two engine options. The first is the standard 2.5-liter with 180 horsepower. The second is a turbocharged 2.4-liter with 260 horsepower. Both come with a continuously variable automatic transmission and standard all-wheel drive. As a capable off-road SUV, the new Outback has 8.7 inches of ground clearance and selectable terrain drive modes.
Subaru is offering the redesigned Outback in six trim levels, including the Wilderness model with additional ground clearance, beefy all-terrain tires, and more exterior trim to protect the vehicle from harsh trails. The Outback Wilderness comes standard with the turbocharged engine.
On the inside, Subaru upgraded the 12.1-inch infotainment touchscreen with a new platform. The customizable system has a quick-access menu to toggle between features. All models have Apple CarPlay® and Android™ Auto, along with a voice-recognition system.
What’s Different in the 2026 Subaru Forester?
The Subaru Forester has been a stalwart choice for drivers who enjoy getting lost in the woods. In 2025, the automaker introduced the Forester Hybrid, and in 2026, Subaru made changes to the Wilderness trim and the interior of the rest of the lineup.
The updated 2026 Subaru Forester Wilderness now has 9.3 inches of ground clearance, new selectable drive settings, a better transmission cooler, big all-terrain Yokohama Geolandar tires, and better angles for more enjoyable trail runs.
All 2026 Forester models have a new center console with a smartly designed phone slot, a larger armrest, and more storage. It also has rear cupholders that are big enough to hold a large reusable water bottle. Drivers will also appreciate the new seatbelt position that makes the ride safer and more comfortable.
How Does the Crosstrek Hybrid Differ from the Crosstrek?
After the success of the Subaru Forester Hybrid, Subaru recognized it was time to offer a Crosstrek Hybrid, too. It’s available in several colors and the model-limited Sand Dune Pearl and Citron Yellow Pearl. Subaru also offers model-specific 18-inch dark gray alloy wheels, so everyone knows you’re driving the hybrid version.
The Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid is powered by a 2.5-liter flat-four engine, two electric motors, and a lithium-ion battery. This hybrid SUV is responsive and delivers 194 horsepower. In typical Subaru style, it comes with all-wheel drive, and for off-roading fun, it has 8.7 inches of ground clearance. The EPA-estimated fuel rating is a combined 36 MPG, which is better than the standard Crosstrek with an EPA-estimated combined fuel rating of 27 to 29 MPG, depending on the trim.
For now, the Crosstrek Hybrid will be available in two well-equipped trims: Sport and Limited. Both feature a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, an 11.6-inch touchscreen with Subaru Starlink software, wireless Apple CarPlay® and Android™ Auto, Bluetooth, and navigation.
How Did Subaru Change the 2026 Ascent?
The Subaru Ascent has been a popular option for families needing three rows and a roomy interior. For 2026, Subaru dropped one of the Onyx Edition trims, so now the Onyx Edition Touring trim is the top level.
Subaru also made a few adjustments to the entry-level Premium trim. The automaker added water-resistant synthetic upholstery and black exterior trim accents.
What’s New with the Electrified Subaru Lineup?
The 2026 Subaru Solterra has a new look and more power. The entry-level model now delivers 233 horsepower, while the new XT trim pushes 338 horsepower, putting the Solterra in line with the EV competition. EV drivers will appreciate the new NACS charging port, which opens up the Tesla Supercharger network for more public-charging options. To accommodate the new charging port, the Solterra has a faster charging speed, up to 150 kW from 100 kW in the previous model years.
Subaru also updated the styling, with a new front fascia and a new spoiler, badging, and lighting on the backside.
The automaker is adding two new EVs to the lineup: the Trailseeker and the Uncharted. The Subaru Trailseeker is the automaker’s midsize SUV and will soon be for sale at stores like Villages Subaru. It features two electric motors, standard all-wheel drive, and an expected 375 horsepower. Living up to its name, it’ll have off-road features like 8.3 inches of ground clearance, several terrain selectable modes, grip control, and downhill assist.
The other new EV is the subcompact Subaru Uncharted, serving as the all-electric sibling to the Crosstrek. Details are still limited, but it is expected to be available with front-wheel or all-wheel drive, impressive horsepower, and an estimated range of 300 miles on a single charge.
